Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent." - Calvin Coolidge
April 23, 2008 A festival of "Pinoy Rock" through the ages. The "fiesta" will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP). The event shall be a fusion of pinoy music, breaking boundaries of time and genre. The night begins to rock with a soulful performance from Lucia Micarelli, modern alternative music solo violinist together with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra. With performances of Pinoy Rock music as well as originals from Radio Active Sago, Up Dharma Down, Drip, Out of Body, Kjwan, Ciudad, Sinosikat, The Jerks, topped off by a culminating performance of the Juan Del La Cruz Band with the Manila Philharmonic Orchestra. It will definitely be the most unforgettable weekend of the year, bringing in droves of pinoy rock, and contemporary music fans from all ages, shapes and sizes. Check out some pictures of some of my favorite local rockers from past events. I am very excited about seeing them with an orchestra! *Contact Patty Dayrit (glittersmoke.multiply.com) if you are interested in contributing to/sponsoring the event. :D Jobs Philippines - Help Wanted April 21, 2008 Philippines Help Wanted - Windows Server Admin April 19, 2008 Candidate should have Managed Service solutions exposure in the public sector market: 2nd Line Support Analyst to deliver projects, consultancy and technical support as required to external clients. These systems are not limited to the web, however the web is where most of your work has been for the last few years. You are the guy we want to lead our development team. You will take a project and run with it, and it will come out better than even we had hoped. You'll find the fatal flaws in our specifications, either propose a change or work around them as appropriate, and do it in an extensible way that will save us time in the future. You really are the cream of the crop. Most of your work has been PHP and MySQL, though you have done a lot with Perl. You are strongly drawn to big challenges and tough assignments, and attack them with tenacity. We would hire you to build us a gigantic web application that supports tens of thousands of customers. Developer #2 You are a geek, the kind of geek we'd expect to see waiting in line for Star Wars tickets or an Xbox 360 at Target. And behind your quiet demeanor, you can code. We could put you in a basement and slide pizza and mountain dew (or Tilt, depending on current office policy) under the door, and you would keep cranking out code we never thought was possible. We''ll want to give you specific details on what you are building, what it should look like, how we want it to work. But once we do that and hand it off, we get something better than we expected. We are always pleased with the functionality and quality of the work you do for us. You are the guy we need if we already have a lead developer and he needs a code monkey who can get code out that works the first time. PHP and MySQL are your strengths, but we will be impressed with your JavaScript and AJAX/Web 2.0 abilities as well. Cross-browser code is tested and working without need to mention it. You are a joy to have on our team. Developer #3 It's tough to describe you. You are the guy we want running our development team, managing a bunch of coders. You are the guy who will listen to what we need and write up the specs. You are the guy that, if we don't have a team of coders, will write us code that will read like poetry and run like the wind. You are obsessed with performance, code reuse, contributing the the Open Source community, and always exploring different ways to improve your own coding abilities in different languages and methodologies. You have more O'Reilly books than us, and have read and comprehended them better than us. You are not one to blast out messy code that barely works. If we need a huge project done in a day, you'll tell us if it can be done, or how it can be done with some changes, and we should listen. You know your stuff. Though your strong suit at the moment is Perl and MySQL, you can do PHP, Ruby, Python and probably whatever other language we want to throw at you. You'll tell us what you like and dislike about all of the languages. And usually, we can't argue with your position -- it's well thought out and often right. You'll still code in your language though. You are a heavyweight, willing to do contract work hourly, or take on a full time job. Whatever the project, you won't disappoint. April 17, 2008 |
